Maarten, until a few years ago, was a Zimbabwean farmer farming fruit, cattle, pigs and ostriches for much of his life; now he and his family find themselves in Somerset West, embarking on a new career as wine farmersn. Maarten has turned his hand to wine in the city where he and wife Janine met whilst at university. With support from friends, family and within the local wine community, and supplemented by extensive study of wine farming and production – including plenty of tasting! – Miravel is fast becoming one of the region’s more exciting young estates.
Tasting note: Good fruit and earthy, forest floor aromas on the nose which carry onto the palate with some additional mulberry flavours. A well balanced, integrated wine with good fruit qualities and smoothness on the palate and lingering flavours. This wine can be stored up to seven or eight years. 100% Pinotage aged 24 months in 4th fill french oak barrels
