Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella 2008 Red Italian Veneto Wine 750 mL

$129.99

Located near Verona in the province of Veneto in northeast Italy, Casa Vinicola Bertani is one of the region’s most important and influential wine producers. Bertani produces a full spectrum of the classic wines of the Veneto and has enjoyed a reputation for quality from the start.
Through the introduction of longer aging techniques, Bertani transformed the traditionally sweet or sparkling red, Recioto della Valpolicella, into the dry, opulent red we know today as Amarone, one of Italy’s most revered red wines. Bertani Amarone is justly celebrated as a standard bearer for its category.

Description

Tasting Notes: Color – Deep garnet red Bouquet – Generous aroma of freshly-picked cherries mingled with notes of sour cherries, vanilla and an agreeable trace of spiciness Taste – Dry, full-bodied and amply structured; cherries, red berries and a hint of vanilla lead into a dazzling finish of walnuts and hazelnuts

Wine Spectator 91 points – A subtle red, with a hint of smoky mineral underscoring the dried cherry, cocoa powder and dried thyme notes. Fresh and elegant, framed by fine tannins and offering a lingering, silky finish. Drink now through 2025. 60,000 cases made. -AN.August/2017
Wine Enthusiast 91 points – Aromas of leather, menthol, dried fruit, exotic spice and a balsamic note emerge on this full-bodied wine. On the firmly structured palate, a tannic backbone supports dried black cherry, raisin, licorice and tobacco..Kerin O’Keefe
Vinous 90 points – Good full ruby. Reticent aromas and flavors of violet, dried herbs and ripe red cherry. Slightly disjointed acidity and spicy, noteworthy tannins gives this an edgy quality on the tactile, medium-long finish which features plenty of botanical herb and spice nuances. I like this wine’s traditional aromas and flavors, but I found it to be a little fruit-challenged at present; perhaps it’s going through a closed phase at present. The lack of fruit causes the acidity and the tannins to stick out more, but maybe all this needs is a little time to come around, and in that case, my score will look ungenerous..Ian DAgata, May/2017
