Precise yet welcoming, the ’14 Tignanello bursts with juicy cherries and brambly wild berries, warm cigar wrapper, mocha, fresh loam and smoky minerals. This wine balances its velvety palate with a sturdy mineral core, unspooling on the palate with a silky texture that’s studded with refined tannins. 2014’s Tignanello may not drink for decades, but it is a pleasurable, supple wine for the near term. An ideal blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, Tignanello changed the Super-Tuscan game. Tignanello derives from a single 140-acre southwestern-facing vineyard of limestone-rich soils; Antinori separately ferments each plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel, ages each plot’s wine in barrels, some new and some used, for about a year, and only then makes the final blend.
