Alta Mora Etna Rosso 2016 Italian Sicilian Red Wine 750 mL

“The 2013 Etna Rosso is 100% Nerello Mascalese that sees six months in botte grande. In fact the wood element is absolutely neutral and the fruit has plenty of room to express itself. Dark berry fruit, dried cherry, spice and balsam herb are presented with sheer volume and brawn. The wine opens to a dark ruby color and imparts luscious dark fruit to the senses. It shows no sign of premature oxidation. It offers medium build with firm tannins and a streamlined finish. This is an impressive showing from young vines and a challenging vintage. I look forward to tasting more wines from Alta Mora.”

“Alta Mora is a newly founded estate owned by the Cusumano brothers, Diego and Alberto. In 2013, they purchased 15 hectares from the Benanti family on the north side of the volcano consisting of six hectares in Verzella (Contrada Pietramarina) planted to Nerello Mascalese and Chardonnay and nine hectares in Guardiola at 880 meters above sea level. The Cusumano brothers planted this vineyard with new vines, mostly Nerello Mascalese. This is my first official tasting of Alta Mora and dare I say: These are among the best wines I have ever tasted from Cusumano. Congratulations.” – Monica Larner
