California, Zinfandel

For 26 years Sin Zin has provided great enjoyment to folks around the globe. Varietally distinct, Sin Zin captures the true essence of Alexander Valley Zinfandel. The fruit is sourced from a variety of vineyards with differing microclimates. This provides winemaker Kevin Hall with an array of unique parcels of fruit. Once vinified, these parcels are blended together and then allowed to mature in French and American oak for 10 months. Further complexity is achieved by the addition of small amounts of Sangiovese.

When making Beringer's White Zinfandel, our focus was to highlight the fresh red berry, citrus and melon aromas and flavors and round these out with subtle hints of nutmeg and clove. "A little riper and fuller than we would expect from Bonterra, this wine is fairly well-focused on Zinfandel's berryish fruit and comes with hints of briary spice and roasted vanilla beans in its likeable aromas. It turns to slight rusticity on the palate and could use a little more central fruitiness to truly knock our socks off, but it is nevertheless a fine and priceworthy choice for savory barbecue. "Although every bit as big and as ripe as its cellarmates, this wine is both slightly fruitier and a little less rugged in construction. Its themes of sweet berries are tinged with a faint note of flowers, and it is so juicy as to intimate a bare hint of sweetness. It is not an especially complex wine, but it is very easy to taste, and we can see it working particularly well as a foil to sweetly sauced barbecued meats."

Winemaker's Comments:
As always the California Zinfandel is a challenging and rewarding wine to produce. Severe selection criteria and master blending show in the final product, which showcases a wide array of dark berry fruit including black cherry and raspberry. Additionally, spice notes and a lasting finish of vanilla from oak aging and firm, supple tannins add complexity to this wine. This wine is ready to drink now and will continue to develop complexity over the next three to four years.

Winemaker Comments:
The 2005 Heritage Zinfandel has a sense of elegance and grace not often found in Zinfandel. Initial aromas of boysenberry, blueberry, and cedar provide an exciting preview for the flavors that follow. Blackberry, currant, allspice, and bright cherry fruit combine with opulent ripe tannins that create a strong sense of depth and concentration. The finish is rich and satisfying with lingering flavors along with excellent acidity and balance.
