Like inhaling liquid smoke, the nose of this wine is positively infused with new oak; and new oak with a dark toast at that. The smokiness carries through to the palate, where it pervades the pretty pear and apple fruit flavors. A nice ripeness to the fruit helps keep it above the smoke. A very extreme style, but intriguing and it works.
